Farewell Nuala

A fond farewell was given to Nuala O’Hara on the occasion of her retirement as resource teacher to pupils in Belmont NS on the 1st of September in Milltown Community Centre. Gratitude was expressed to Nuala for the knowledge and skills she imparted to the eager children in her care. A special thanks to all the people who attended, served and brought refreshments and to those who helped to transform the community centre for the night.

The children will miss Nuala’s wonderful classes and her many treats! On behalf of all staff past and present, all children past and present and their families we wish Nuala a healthy and more relaxed time ahead with time to achieve all the dreams and goals on her ‘bucket list ! Thank you for your patience, kindness and gentle way with the children. Míle buíochas ó chroí.

Gerry took over 200 photos of the night which you can view on

Milltown crowned tidiest town in Galway

Milltown has been named the ‘Tidiest Town’ in Galway in the national SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition.

The north Galway town also received a silver award in the national category for areas with a population of under 200.

Congratulations to Seán Nestor of Russellstown who was awarded a ‘Communnity Hero’ award for his tireless work with the Tidy Towns initiative in Milltown.

The SuperValu Community Hero awards celebrate the efforts of 10 SuperValu Community Heroes from across Ireland, who act as exemplary members of their community.

Each hero was acknowledged for their outstanding contribution to their local area through their involvement in SuperValu TidyTowns. On hand to present the prize was Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, SuperValu.

Commenting on the awards Mr. Kelleher said: “As we mark 26 years as title sponsor of the SuperValu TidyTowns competition, we remain incredibly proud of our long-standing involvement in this important initiative.

Year after year we see volunteers up and down the country come together to enhance their local communities and their tremendous passion and dedication never fails to impress.

“The SuperValu Community Hero Awards are intended to recognise those who go above and beyond in their endeavours and I would like to congratulate all our winners on this tremendous achievement.”
