Water Action Day

Today was Water Action Day in Belmont N.S. The children in 3rd to 6th classes went on a field trip to the Dawros river. This river is a tributary of the Clare river which flows through the village of Milltown. They were met by two members of the local Angling club who explained what they do to conserve stocks of salmon. They have carried out work on the river to create a more suitable environment for salmon to spawn. Catriona Cunningham from An Taisce also joined the children on the field trip. She brought nets, a pipette, jars, magnifying glasses and pictures which helped the children identify the river creatures. They learned a lot.

R.I.P. Baby Bunny

We have found the entrance to a burrow beside the new planting beds. We have seen signs of the rabbits eating the herbs and crops. Last week, some children in Senior Infants found a dead baby rabbit. They buried the rabbit in the school grounds.
