Library Visit to Tuam

The children in First Class got a lovely treat today when they visited Tuam Library to see a puppet show. This was part of the children’s book festival. It was great fun!!

Autumn Walkabout

On Friday the children in the Junior Room walked around the school identifying trees. They worked in pairs using pictures of leaves as a guide to identify the tree. They really enjoyed the walkabout.

Bird Boxes

Today we took down the bird boxes that were hanging on the school wall. Two of them have been homes for blue tits. They have now flown away. We will clean them out and get them ready for next Spring.

Help my kid learn!

I just happened across the Help My Kid Learn website during the week . It seems that as part of the national literacy and numeracy strategy, the Department of Education and Skills (DES) asked theNational Adult Literacy Agency to highlight the role that parents and communities can play in improving children’s literacy and numeracy, using media, online resources and celebrity endorsements. The website’s purpose is to provide fun activities that parents can do with their children to develop their literacy and numeracy. It includes general information, fun activities and useful tips. Help My Kid Learn is a website where people can see that supporting a child’s literacy and numeracy development is a natural, easy and fun activity that can be integrated into any part of their day.

Poetry Corner

Every month the whole school will be focusing on a different poetry theme on the first Tuesday of every month. This month we read space poems. Some children read poems they wrote themselves. They also worked together in groups reading space poems from various poetry anthologies. Click on the links below to hear some original space poems.
